Games and play with coloring pages
A coloring page is more than crayons — creative games that turn a printout into fun, developmental play.
Color dice
Assign colors to the faces of a die. The child rolls and colors one element in the rolled color. The random element turns plain coloring into an exciting, surprising game.
Find and color
Ask: 'color everything round' or 'every animal blue'. Such prompts train attention, shape recognition and listening comprehension.
Coloring against the clock
For older children, set a timer and see how much they color in the time. Gentle time pressure can motivate — but keep it fun, not stressful.
A coloring riddle
Cover the title and ask the child to guess what the picture shows while coloring it piece by piece. Revealing the whole step by step builds thinking and patience.
A shared mural
Tape several pages into one big picture and color it together, each their own part. Teamwork teaches cooperation and is great fun for the whole family.
